Box ScoreBrooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team cruised past the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 9-0, on Wednesday at the Roosevelt Courts, as the Bulldogs earned their first City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) win of the season.
With the win, BC improves to 2-1 overall on the year and 1-1 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay falls to 2-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The Bulldogs seized early command of the match, as the home team took all three doubles flights. The tandem of
Suraya Maenhout and
Muriel Dervich took #2 doubles with ease, 8-0; while the duo of
Rosalia Xue and
Lauren Marino won 8-1 at #3 doubles. For Marino, the doubles win would mark her first career victory.
Brooklyn would take home the win at #1 doubles via retirement, as John Jay's Ashlynne O'Brien suffered an injury that would not allow her to continue the match.
Yuliya Orkis and
Diana Beshta were up in the match 2-1 at the time of the injury.
Switching to singles play, Orkis (6-2, 6-0), Maenhout (6-1, 6-0), Dervich (6-2, 6-4), Beshta (6-1, 6-2) and Xue (6-0, 6-0) all took wins in singles action to go along with their wins in doubles, at #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5 singles, respectively.
Love Olufemi earned her first career win at #6 singles, winning 6-3, 6-0.
Brooklyn returns to action on Friday, September 19th, as the Bulldogs will host Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference match. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus.
