Box Score Brooklyn, NY – The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer Team recorded their first win of the season Thursday evening, defeating the visiting Purchase State, 3-2. Not only did the Bulldogs defeat the Panthers, but they made a miraculous second half comeback after falling behind 2-0 at the intermission. The Bulldogs improve to 1-3 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 0-4.
Purchase dominated the scoreboard in the first half of the match as the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on any opportunities, although they logged seven shots on goal. On the contrary, the Panthers' Riley Graham recorded the games' first two goals, putting the ball past Brooklyn's
Rebecca Harmata.
In the second half, Brooklyn stepped up their level of play, and junior
Jasmine Fermin ripped the ball in the upper right corner, right past the Panther's keeper, Briana Leon.
Shortly after, Fermin assisted
Shani Nakhid-Schuster in capitalizing on a shot that lofted over Leon's head, tying the score at two a piece.
With a tie score, and not much time left to play,
Jasmine Fermin was determined to cash in one last time. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, Jennifer Betitez set Fermin up to seal the deal and break the tie. The Bulldogs kept the 3-2 lead for the remainder of the game, with assistance from Harmata who totaled four saves for the Bulldogs.
Brooklyn will take on the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Monday at 4:00 p.m. The Panthers will resume play as they travel to take on Yeshiva University on Sunday, September 20.
