Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Bulldogs got their second conference win of the season, outlasting Lehman, 56-53, in what was mostly a defensive battle at West Quad. BC improves to 4-1, 2-0 CUNYAC, while Lehman falls to 3-3, 2-1.
The contest was a rematch of last season's CUNYAC title game, in which Brooklyn fell in overtime, but tonight the Bulldogs would get the big early season victory, as they outscored Lehman, 24-10, in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Both teams struggled to score throughout the night, Brooklyn could only hit on 8 of 45 shots in the first half, including only 1-20 from beyond the arc. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, their shooters emerged in the second half, as
Justine Vento converted on three in the half (four for the game), and
Alexandra Moogan hit on two of her own, including the biggest shot of the night, a corner three-pointer with 1:02 remaining, to push the BC lead back to five, and seemingly clinch the victory.
"I thought we did an excellent job on the defensive end tonight," said head coach
Alex Lang. "Our bench stepped up big as well, especially Kailyn and Allie, who hit that big shot down the stretch."
Vento led the team with 12 points, while
Kailyn Richburg came off the BC bench with 10 points of her own.
Senior center
Maya Ajee-Thomas had six points and 12 boards before leaving with an injury.
Karen Mak led all players with five assists.
Lehman's Krystal Pearson led all scorers with 19 points, while Brooklyn contained Amely Del Rosario, the nation's leading scorer entering the contest, holding her to only 11 points and 3-17 from the field.
Brooklyn will be on the road Friday, continuing CUNYAC play with a game at John Jay at 6 pm. Lehman
