Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team dropped a tough, 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 33-35, 25-15), non-conference match to St. Joseph's Long Island this evening at the West Quad Center. BC moves to 14-7 overall with the loss while St. Joe's improved to 16-10. The Bulldogs travel to New Jersey City University on Saturday, October 20, for a tri-match against the host and Sarah Lawrence College.
Down 2-0 after the first two sets, the Bulldogs didn't give in and pulled out a 35-33 marathon win in the third set to force a fourth. With the lead exchanging hands multiple times through the better part of the set, the Bulldogs rallied for five straight scores to take a 22-18 lead. The Golden Eagles responded with a three-score rally of their own to pull within a point of the Bulldogs. The excitement continued to build as an enthusiastic Brooklyn crowd cheered the the Bulldogs on. With the match tied 33-33, the Bulldogs gained the advantage on a St. Joe's Service error. The Golden Eagles bounced back in the fourth, taking a 14-9 after a five-point rally and keeping a comfortable lead to finish off the match.
Appel had a big night for the Bulldogs finishing with a match-high 23 kills and a team-high 23 digs. Freshman standout,
Ezri Shor, also had a stellar evening for BC finishing with 10 kills and a team-high 17 assists.
The Golden Eagles had a wall of a presence at the net tonight finishing with eight solo blocks and 10 assisted blocks for the match. SJCLI also had 14 service aces to the Bulldogs' four for the evening.
