Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) decision to the College of New Rochelle in non-conference play at the West Quad Center on Homecoming this evening. Brooklyn moves to 10-6 overall with the loss while CNR improved to 5-14 with the victory. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, October 8, for a CUNYAC tri-match at Medgar Evers College where the Bulldogs will take on the host at 11:00 am and the College of Staten Island.
Brooklyn seemed to be in control to start the match, jumping out to a 7-2 in the first set. However, the Blue Angels battled back to eventually take a 10-9 lead. The exchanged short runs in an action-packed opening set. With the set tied 23-23, the visitor took a 1-0 lead on back-to-back kills.
The Bulldogs looked like they'd bounce back in the set, taking an 11-6 lead. CNR responded once again. With the Bulldogs leading 15-14, the Blue Angels went on a seven-score rally to take a commanding 21-15 lead limiting any chance of a BC comeback.
CNR controlled the third set from the opening serve, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. Brooklyn chipped away at the deficit, to come within three points of the Blue Angels, 11-8. That is as close as BC would get as CNR would run away with the third set and the match.
BC senior outside hitter,
Michaela Appel, put away a match-high 13 kills. Sophomore setter,
Claudia Moi, finished with a match-high 14 assists.
The Blue Angels served up eight aces on the evening. CNR also finished with 12 blocks. Imani Debose led CNR with 11 kills.
