Bulldogs Edged By Chapman, 68-62, to Close Out California Trip

Whittier, CA---One quarter of play was the difference this evening, as the Brooklyn College women's basketball team was outlasted, 68-62, by Chapman University in its California trip finale at Whittier College.  Brooklyn split on the trip, defeating host Whittier, 67-61, on Friday.  The Bulldogs dip to 4-5 overall with the loss while Chapman improved to 8-4.  The Bulldogs return to CUNYAC action at home on Thursday, January 3, against Hunter College at 5:00 pm.  

How It Happened

-With Brooklyn keeping a 36-34 advantage at the half, Chapman outscored the Bulldogs 20-12 in the third quarter and extended its lead to as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter to hold on for good.  Brooklyn came as close as three points of the Panthers, 56-53, with 8:15 left in regulation following a three-point play converted by sophomore guard, Michelle Pena.  However, the Panthers responded with a 7-0 run to takes their largest lead of the contest.  
-Trailing the Panthers 11-4 halfway through the opening quarter, the Bulldogs battled their way back into the contest thanks to a 9-0 run, which gave them a 13-11 edge with 1:33 left.  The run was highlighted by back-to-back three-point makes buried by junior guard Grace Martinez-Espina and freshman guard, Kayla Trembone. Brooklyn headed into the second quarter with a 16-15 lead.  
-The teams exchanged leads in the second period with neither team taking more than a four-point advantage. 
-Chapman out-rebounded the Bulldogs 20-11 on the offensive boards and had 21 turnovers to BC's 35 for the game.

-Senior forward, Jasmine Hansgen, and sophomore guard, Tayor George, scored 14 points each.  Hansgen picked up her first double-double of the season also grabbing 10 rebounds. 
-Senior wing, Alexandra Moogan, added 13 points making a team-high three three-pointers for the contest.  

Leading the Panthers

-Julia Strand scored a game-high 15 points off of the bench.
-Starters, Melissa Dunn and Lucy Criswell, scored 14 points and 12 points respectively.
