Women's Volleyball Rolls to Fourth Straight Win Over St. Joe's Brooklyn, 3-0

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team rolled to its fourth straight win this evening, sweeping St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17) in non-conference-action at the West Quad Center.  BC improves to 7-1 to start the season while the Bears dropped to 2-5.  The Bulldogs return to  conference play at home on Thursday, September 20, against Lehman College at 6:00 pm.

In a defensive match from start to finish, sophomore outside hitter Yana Shaposhnikova and senior outside hitter, Michaela Appel, led the Bulldogs with five kills each.  Freshman setter, Ezri Shor added four kills to a team-high 11 assists on the evening.  Freshman middle blocker Megan Ortiz-Mengedoht finished with a match-high four blocks.

The Bulldogs cruised in the first set, jumping out to a 12-1 lead to start the match.  BC had a hot start in the second set, taking a 7-1 lead.  However, the Bears chipped away at the Brooklyn lead to only trail 16-15 at one point.  Brooklyn regrouped for a four-score run sparked by a kill hit by senior middle hitter Lucy Yazikova.

SJC kept it close in the early parts of the third set, but the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run capped by a service ace hit by sophomore setter, Kate Meltsin, to help BC to a 16-9 advantage.  Brooklyn closed out the match with three straight scores ending with a Yazikova kill assisted by Appel.
