Women's Volleyball Extends Win-Streak to Five at Home Over Lehman, 3-0

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team extended its win-streak to five this evening with a conference sweep of Lehman College at the West Quad Center.  Brooklyn improves to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC with the victory while Lehman drops to 3-8 and 1-3 in the conference.  The Bulldogs hit the road on Saturday, September 22, for a non-conference tri-match at Rutgers-Camden where they will take on the host and Wilkes University (PA).

BC was led by senior outside hitter, Michaela Appel, who finished with a match-high 14 kills.  Freshman setter, Ezri Shor, had another stellar all-around performance finishing with eight kills, three service aces, and a match-high 18 assists.  Freshman middle hitter, Rain Zhang, added six kills.

Brooklyn dominated the first set.  Already leading 9-5, BC would score seven unanswered points capped by a kill put away by senior middle hitter, Lucy Yazikova.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off in the second set, rallying for ten straight scores to take a commanding 17-5 lead.  Brooklyn closed out the second set with a four-point rally ending with a Shor kill assisted by sophomore setter, Kate Meltsin.

Lehman made the third set more interesting especially down the stretch clinging to a 22-19 lead.  However, the Bulldogs rallied for three straight scores to knot the set up, 22-22.  The Lightning would find themselves at set-point, 24-23, but the Bulldogs did not give in.  Sparked by a Zhang kill to tie the set, the Bulldogs would win the match on a pair of Lehman errors on the next two points.

The Lightning was led by Eriadna Vasquez's five kills.  Caitlin Vernon served up five aces.
