Women's Volleyball Drops Both of Tri-Match at USMMA

Kings Point, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team dropped match of a non-conference tri-match this afternoon.  In its first match of the day, BC fell to host US Merchant Marine Academy, 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-13).  BC closed out the day with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-12) loss to Bard College.  Brooklyn moves to 9-5 overall after today.  Brooklyn continues its non-conference road schedule at Maritime on Monday, October 1, at 7:00 pm.  The Bulldogs return home on Thursday, October 4th, to host the College of New Rochelle on Volleyball Homecoming Night.  The first 125 BC fans will receive a FREE BC Athletics t-shirt.

Against USMMA, the Bulldogs fell behind early in the first two sets of the match.  It looked like BC was in more control to start the third set, jumping out to a 5-2 lead.  However, the home team took the lead for good with a six-score rally to take an 8-5 lead and build from there for the match.

Brooklyn was led by senior outside hitter Michaela Appel's five kills.  Freshman setter, Ezri Shor added four kills to go along with a team-high five assists.  Sophomore outside hitter, Yana Shaposhnikova, led the Bulldogs defensively with 12 digs.

It looked like the Bulldogs put the first match behind them especially in the first set against Bard as BC took a 10-7 lead following a five-point rally capped by a service ace put away by junior libero, Jailene Paredes.  However, with the score tied, 12-12, the Raptors used a three-score rally to hols the Bulldogs off the rest of the way.

BC found itself in a similar position in the second set and once again the Raptors kept themselves within a couple of points and made their run toward the middle of the set.  Bard ran away with the third set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead and never looking back.

Appel led the Bulldogs in kills (9) and digs (14) in the second match.  Shaposhnikova added five kills to go along with 11 digs and a service ace.  Shor finished with five kills and a team-high seven assists.
