Purchase, NY---The BC women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-11) sweep of Purchase College in its Season Opener on the road this evening. Tonight's match was also Purchase's first of the season. The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround as they travel to Sarah Lawrence College tomorrow for another non-conference match. Opening serve is set for 7:00 pm.
Senior outside hitter,
Michaela Appel, led the way with a match-high 12 kills for the night. Freshman setter,
Ezri Shor, had a well-rounded collegiate debut finishing with six kills, 11 assists, a pair of service aces, and seven digs.
Leading 10-8 early in the first set, the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run for a six-score cushion. BC's lead grew to nine after four more unanswered scores to take an 18-9 lead.
The Panthers battled the Bulldogs in the second set, keeping the score tied 16-16. However, BC took the lead for good with a 6-1 run for a comfortable 22-17 lead down the stretch of the set. The Bulldogs closed out the second set on a kill put away by freshman middle blocker,
Sara Lulanaj, who also finished with a match-high three blocks.
Already leading 13-7 in th third set, the Bulldogs scored seven straight beginning with an Appel kill and ending with an Appel service ace. Junior libero,
Jailene Paredes, ended the match with a kill of her own assisted by sophomore setter,
Claudia Moi. Moi finished with a match-high 12 assists.
Purchase was led by freshman outside hitter, Sommer Code, who finished with team-highs in kills (8), service aces (3), and a match-high 13 digs.
