Women's Volleyball Rolls to Second Straight to Start the Season at Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team rolled to its second straight victory this evening, sweeping Sarah Lawrence, 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-20), only 24 hours after doing the same to Purchase College.  SLC drops to 0-2 with the non-conference loss.  The Bulldogs open conference play tomorrow as they host a CUNYAC tri-match against last season's conference champ, Hunter, at 2:00 pm and start the day with the 2017 CUNYAC runners-up, John Jay at 10:00 am.

Junior outside hitter, Michaela Appel, finished with a monster match, putting away 10 kills and serving up nine service aces.  Freshman setter, Ezri Shor, led the way with 14 assists.

After falling behind 1-0 to start the match, the Bulldogs rattled off five straight scores to take the lead for good in the first set.  Leading 12-7, BC blew the set wide open with an 11-0 run.

The Bulldogs let-down a little to start the second set, falling behind 9-4.  However, BC organized and scored five straight to tie the set, 9-9.  Brooklyn would retake the lead for good with a 4-0 stretch, giving them a 13-10 advantage.  The Bulldogs closed out the second set with three straight scores beginning with a kill hammered home by senior middle blocker, Lucy Yazikova, who finished the match with six kills.

Brooklyn jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the third set, but Sarah Lawrence would chip away and find themselves trailing only by one, 13-12, halfway through the set.  The Bulldogs responded with a pair of aces and a pair of kills to rebuild a comfortable 17-12 lead.  Appel closed out the match with a kill assisted by sophomore setter, Claudia Moi.  Moi finished the match with six assists and a match-high nine digs.

The Gryphons were led by Melanie Coleman's 10 kills.
