Brooklyn, NY---It was a solid start for the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team in conference play today. The Bulldogs started off the day with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-16) sweep of last year's conference runner-up, John Jay. Despite falling in the final match of the day to defending conference champ, Hunter, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22), the Bulldogs show resilience to the very end of the final set. After play four matches in three days, the Bulldogs will have a few days to recoup before traveling to CCNY on Thursday, September 13th, to continue conference play.
Senior outside hitter,
Michaela Appel, paced the Bulldogs with eight kills and three blocks against John Jay in the first match. Sophomore setter,
Claudia Moi, finished with a team-high 16 assists while sophomore outside hitter,
Yana Shaposhnikova, had a match-high 15 digs.
Trailing John Jay 21-20 in the first set, the Bulldogs rallied for five straight to win the set. During the run, freshman middle blocker
Rain Zhang put away a pair of kills.
The Bulldogs dominated the second set against the Bloodhounds towards the middle of the set, scoring eight unanswered points to take a 20-7 lead.
BC continued its strong play in the third set jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Already up 20-16, the Bulldogs closed out the match with five straight points sparked by an Appel kill.
In the Bulldogs' second match of the day, Hunter controlled the first two sets keeping a comfortable advantage through both. When it looked like things were shaping up to be the same in the third set, Brooklyn would come back, tied with the Hawks, 22-22. However, Hunter closed out the match with a pair of kills and a service ace.

Ezri Shor, led the Bulldogs with six kills and two service aces.
