Brooklyn, NY---Despite a 28-point, 16-rebound effort from the junior forward,
Chanel Jemmott, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season at local non-conference foe, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) tonight. The Bulldogs move to 3-1 in defeat while the Bears picked up their first win of the season for a 1-3 record. Brooklyn will continue their road stretch to start the season at Kean University on Friday, November 22, at 6pm.
Game Summary
-The Bulldogs had a strong start to the contest, going on a 9-2 run to close out the first quarter for a 23-16 advantage heading into the second. BC's run was sparked by a three-point field goal drained by freshman wing,
Dasha Goodman.
-Brooklyn continued to roll early in the second quarter thanks to a 10-0 run capped by a Goodman three with 6:14 left in the first half. However, the home team battled back, cutting the Bulldogs' halftime lead to 39-37 following an 8-0 run to close out the quarter.
-The the teams traded baskets to start the second half, but the Bears made their initial push to retake the lead, 41-39, for the first time since the first minute of play with 8:36 left in the third quarter.
-Brooklyn tied the game, 48-48 for the last time with 6:03 to go in the third after back-to-back Jemmott lay-ins. The Bears would respond with four unanswered points in the next minute, and wouldn't relinquish the lead from that point on.
-The Bulldogs shot 50% from the floor in the first half and 33% in the second half. SJC shot 43% in the first half and 47.5% in the second half.
-SJC outscored the Bulldogs 38-26 in the paint.
Leading BC
-Jemmott's team-high 28 points came on 10-20 from the floor and 7-10 from the charity stripe. Her 16 rebounds were a game-high.
-Goodman poured in a BC career-high 20 points, shotting 6-10 from beyond the arc.
-Senior guard,
Taylor George, added 18 points, dished out three assists, and came up with four steals.
Leading the Bears
-Emma Kiley scored a game-high 29 points on 12-14 from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. She also grabbed nine boards.
-Lauren Quesada added 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and came up with six steals.
-Kelly O'Donnell finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
