Box Score Brooklyn, NY---Improving to 3-1 on their home court, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team picked up a non-conference sweep, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-18), over Yeshiva University this evening at the West Quad Center. Brooklyn improves to 3-5 overall snapping a five-match skid. The Maccabees dop to 1-3 to start the season. Brooklyn remains home on Thursday to host Sarah Lawrence College at 7:00 pm.
How It Happened
-After taking the first set in convincing fashion having never trailed, the Bulldogs met some Yeshiva resistance in the second game from the start, falling behind the Maccabees 3-0. The Bulldogs immediately responded with a four-score rally of their own, eventually building a 9-4 advantage. Brooklyn maintained a solid lead until Yeshiva made a late run to retake the lead 22-21. Trailing Yeshiva 23-22, the Bulldogs closed out the game with three straight scores including back-to-back kills put away by junior middle hitter,
Gabriel Pjatak. Brooklyn jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the third game and would maintain a comfortable cushion to close out the match.
-Despite having four more hitting errors than Yeshiva on the evening, the Bulldogs put away 33 kills to the Macs' 19. Brooklyn also finished with 12 service aces to Yeshiva's two.
Leading the Bulldogs
-Pjatak finished with a match-high 12 points on eight kills and three blocks. He also served up a pair of aces.
-Freshman middle hitter
Omar Rezika totaled 9.5 points with four kills, two blocks, and four service aces.
-Sophomore setter,
Michael Valentin, added six kills to go along with a match-high 19 assists. He also finished with a match-high ten digs.
Leading the Maccabees
-Adam Gerszberg had a team-high five kills.
-Chaim Aryeh Rubin led the way with 7.5 points finishing with three kills, three blocks, and two service aces. He also finished with a team-high eight digs.
