Brooklyn, NY---In a non-conference battle, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team was eventually worn down by New York University this evening at home, 73-56. BC moves to 6-4 overall in defeat while the Violets continue their strong strong start, improving to 9-1 with the win. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in conference play at Hunter College on Monday, January 6, at 5pm.
Game Summary
-With the Bulldogs trailing NYU 50-48 to start the fourth period, the Violets began to take control in the opening minutes with a 4-0 run. BC would get with within four points (54-50) with 5:53 remaining in regulation following a
Chanel Jemmott lay-in before NYU closed out the contest with a 19-6 run.
-Brooklyn made a solid stand in the third quarter, grabbing a 48-45 lead after a fall away jumper splashed by Jemmott with 3:25 left in the third.
-The Bulldogs came out on fire to start the game thanks to a pair of threes drained by freshman wing,
Sarah James giving BC a 10-3 lead in the first three minutes of play. NYU would eventually settle in, taking a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
-The teams would trade baskets for the majority of the second quarter with NYU having the last say before halftime thanks to a made three giving them a 34-31 advantage at the half.
-NYU shot 50% from the field to BC's 26.3% in the second half.
-Despite the Violets' size advantage, Brooklyn out-rebounded NYU 17-13 on the offensive boards.
-Four Violets reached double-figures in scoring for the night.

-Janean Cuffee added 16 points and grabbed five boards.
-Brooklyn Shelton chipped in 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, and came up with three steals.
