Brooklyn, NY---For the sixth straight year, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team is heading to the CUNYAC Championship. The No. 1 seeded Bulldogs cruised in the second half to a 72-45 victory over No. 5 seed York College in the semifinals of the conference championship tournament at the West Quad Center tonight. Brooklyn improves to 20-6 with tonight's win while York closes out the season at 11-15. In a rematch of last year's final, the Bulldogs will take on No. 2 seed Hunter College at York College at 5:30 pm. Following the completion of the women's final, the Brooklyn men's team will take on No. 2 seed Baruch at 8:30pm in the championship.
How It happened
- With Bulldogs leading 33-17 at halftime, the Cardinals didn't go away, cutting the BC to 38-29 with 6:19 to go in the third quarter. However, the Bulldogs responded with a 19-0 run to close the quarter to grab a 28-point lead heading into the final quarter.
- Brooklyn continued to cruise in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 32 points in the game's final six minutes.
- A back-and-forth contest in the first five minutes of play, the Bulldogs clung to a 6-4 lead following a three drained by York's Destiny Drummond at the 5:08 mark. Brooklyn would then close out the first quarter with a 10-0 run sparked by a three buried by freshman guard, Ericka James.
- BC led by as many as 19 points in the first half The Bulldogs shot 41% from beyond the arc as a team in the first 20 minutes of action.
