Brooklyn, NY----For the first time in two years due to the pandemic, Brooklyn College Athletics celebrated the year in-person at its 27th Awards Banquet held in the Gold Room in the BC Student Center.  The 26th installment of the awards banquet was done virtually back in 2020.

Alex Lang (Associate Athletic Director/ Head Women's Basketball Coach) served as the master of ceremonies for the event that honored Brooklyn's student-athletes across 13 athletic teams for the 2021-22 Academic Year.

Three major awards were handed out on the day with the Ed Madden Memorial Award, the Tracy Ohrman Memorial Award, and the Joseph. The Ed Madden Memorial Award is given to one male and one female student-athlete that demonstrate courage and leadership, while exemplifying the true spirit of sport. The Tracy Ohrman Award is given to a student-athlete that exemplifies personal strength and perseverance.  For the time, an award was presented in the name of BC Men's Soccer Coach, Joseph R. Andre,  who unfortunately passed away in 2020 to a student-athlete that displays outstanding dedication and sportsmanship in the sport of soccer.  Coach Andre's sister, Ann, would present the inaugural award.

The Ed Madden Memorial Award was given out to Randy Urgiles (Men's Soccer) and Chanel Jemmott (Women's Basketball). Ezri Shor (Women's Volleyball) and Ronaldo Barrios (Men's Swimming and Diving) would take home the Tracy Ohrman Award.  The first ever Joseph Andre Memorial Award would go to Kimani Laylor (Men's Soccer), whom Coach Andre recruited and coached.

This year's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Award would be presented to Nancy Pham (Women's Basketball).

The various all-conference honorees from this past season were also recognized. In total, BC racked up 27 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) All-Stars including Player of the Year winner Chanel Jemmott - Women's Basketball, CUNYAC Rookie of the Year winners (Aleah Rafat – Women's Volleyball, Angelina Vasta - Women's Soccer), and CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award recipient - Brian Fok.  In addition, BC Head Women's Basketball Coach, Alex Lang, and Head Women's Volleyball Coach, Mat Gotowicki,  earned conference Coach of the Year honors.

There were a total of 84 CUNYAC Scholar Athletes (GPA of 3.2 and above).  Seniors David Li (Men's Volleyball), Sarah Labiner (Women's Basketball), Christian Hoyek (Men's Swimming and Diving), and Ezri Shor (Women's Volleyball) were recognized as Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athletes.
