BC Student-Athletes Recognized by CUNYAC at 39th Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards

Queens, NY---On Thursday, four Brooklyn College student-athletes were recognized as Honorable Mention Scholar-Athletes of the Year at the 39th edition of the CUNYAC Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner hosted at Terrace on the Park.  In addition, the conference recognized all of the major award winners in their respective sports, which included the following Bulldogs this year: Niko Metreveli (Men's Soccer/Player of the Year), Andrew Gavrilov (Men's Soccer/Rookie of the Year), Nathan Bell (Men's Soccer/Coach of the Year), Sage Bernstein (Women's Soccer/Sportsmanship Award), Megan Campbell (Coach of the Year), Giorgi Zhamutashvili (Men's Tennis/Rookie of the Year), Addy Cook (Softball/Rookie of the Year), and Jenna Hood (Softball/Sportsmanship Award). Let's meet this year's Scholar-Athlete honorees: 


sage saoy
Sage Bernstein carries a 3.71 GPA as an Education major.  A three-year member of the Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team and Team Captain, Sage earned the conference's Sportsmanship Award in 2025.  She also earned All-CUNYAC First Team honors in 2024 after leading the conference in assists.  Sage has helped lead the women's soccer team to three straight CUNYAC Championship Tournament semifinal appearances.  A two-sport athlete, Sage has also been a member of the Brooklyn College Softball team the last two seasons, starting 21 games in her first season of collegiate softball in 2025, and most recently helped Brooklyn to their first CUNYAC Championship appearance since in the program's history in 2026.  The NCAA Division I transfer has served successfully as President of the Brooklyn College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee with a strong participation from every team within the Department of Athletics and has led the efforts of numerous community service projects. Sage has also been recognized academically by the College Sports Communicators as an Academic All-District selection.

Ruti Joshi carries a 3.78 GPA as an Early Childhood Education and Youth and Children's Studies double-major. A four-year member of the Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team and Team Captain, Ruti amassed 1,082 digs for her career, leading the team in the statistical category in 2023, 2024, and 2025.  She also led the team in service aces in 2024 and 2025.  Ruti would be named CUNYAC Libero of the Year following the 2024 Season and picked up Second Team All-CUNYAC honors in 2025.  Ruti helped lead Brooklyn to CUNYAC Championship appearances in 2022 and 2025.  In addition to her accolades for her efforts on the court, Ruti earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators in 2024 and 2025.

Nicholai Krylyuk carries a 3.74 GPA  as a Biology major.  A three-year member of the Brooklyn College men's swimming and diving team, Nicholai helped Brooklyn to back-to-back (2025 and 2026) Second Place finishes at CUNYAC Championships.  Nicholai has earned All-CUNYAC accolades as a junior and senior.  He also earned the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award in 2025.  In addition to his accomplishments in the pool, Nicholai was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in 2025.

Aaron Siu carries a 3.75 GPA as a Computer Science major.  A three-year member of the Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team, Aaron racked up 715 kills, leading the team in the statistic all three years.  He also led the Bulldogs in service aces in 2024 and 2025 and in digs 2024.  He earned All-CUNYAC accolades all three seasons -  2024 (Second Team), 2025 (First Team), 2026 (Second Team).  He helped lead the Bulldogs to a CUNYAC Championship Tournament Semifinal appearance in 2025.
