Justine O’Callahan earned January’s Student-Athlete of the Month Award with her consistent effort and clutch play. The 5’11” F/C was an important cog in the team’s that went 5-5 in the month of January.
During the month, O’Callahan averaged 10.7 points, shot 40% from the field, and added 7.5 rebounds a game, all above her season averages. Her best games came in some of the team’s most important contests. Against CCNY, she had a double-double, with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Against Baruch three days later, she added another double-double to her resume, with 15 points and 10 caroms. She also added another 18 points against conference foe Lehman College in an overtime victory.
O’Callahan, a sophomore, had an immediate impact when she joined the women’s basketball team last year. In her career, she has started in 40 of the 45 games she has played in. As well as she played as a freshman, Head Coach Alex Lang sees lots of potential in O’Callahan, saying, “The sky is the limit for Justine. I think that sometimes opponents forget that she is as good as she is because we have a lot of talent on the team.”
O’Callahan is an exercise science and physical education major and in her second year at the Midwood campus.
