Thanks, in large part, to the offensive prowess of junior Danielle Maresca, the Brooklyn College Softball team will jump into the CUNYAC Tournament as the fifth seed. The team struggled during the final month, going 9-12-1 overall, with a 3-5 conference record, but Maresca continued to shine. She takes the award for the second month in a row.
On the month, the third baseman had a .500 batting average, while starting all 22 games at the hot corner. She compiled eight doubles, a pair of triples, and a whopping five home runs on 32 hits. She also led the team with 21 RBI, a .922 slugging percentage, and a .571 on base percentage. Maresca’s also played well in the field, she had a .926 fielding percentage, committing just six errors with 43 put outs and 32 assists.
Of his star third baseman, head coach Bill Dumont said, “Maresca's hitting has attained a new level. She has clearly demonstrated that she has a lot of power in her swing with her five home runs this month.”
Her best game of the month came in a 10-1 defeat of the College of New Rochelle on April 10th. In the game, she went 3-3 at the plate with a double and a home run, adding three RBI and two runs scored.
Maresca is an early childhood education major in her second year at BC.
