Junior forward Kavon Baker was vital to the Brooklyn College Men’s Basketball team’s success this year, which saw the Bulldogs go 17-8 overall during the regular season and 7-4 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), en route to claiming the #2 seed in the CUNYAC/Con Edison Men’s Basketball Championships.
During the month of February, which saw Brooklyn go 6-2 in the month, Baker played in all eight games, while making seven starts. The Brooklyn, NY native averaged 12.1 points per game on 43.9% (36-82) shooting from the field, to go along with 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while playing in 34.9 minutes per game.
Baker had his highest scoring output on February 8th in an 80-58 victory over York College with 18 points.
York and Brooklyn would meet again just 10 days later on February 18th, in the Quarterfinals Round of the CUNYAC Tournament, as the Cardinals ended the hopes of a third Brooklyn championship in four years, with its 79-73 overtime win.
In that game, Baker recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with seven assists.
The Bulldogs’ postseason would continue in the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament, as BC earned a bid to the eight-team tournament made up of teams from New York and New Jersey.
Coming in the First Round of the ECAC Metro tournament on February 29th, Baker helped lead the Bulldogs past Rutgers-Newark and into the Semifinals Round, with seven points and nine rebounds.
For his efforts during the month of February 2012, Baker has been named the Brooklyn College Male Student-Athlete of the Month.
