New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Team (11-3, 5-0 CUNYAC) traveled to John Jay (4-11, 1-4 CUNYAC) and defeated the defending CUNYAC Champion by a final score of 98-76. This was the fifth straigh win for the team.
Brooklyn opened the game by scoring five straight points and never trailed. Ahmad Hemingway (Curtis / Brooklyn, NY) broke an early 5-5 tie with his only trifecta of the night, starting a 35- 13 run that saw the Bridges lead by as many as 22 points, 40-18 with just over seven minutes to play in the period. The defending champions would not go quietly, as Chris Jaeger (Hickville / Hicksville, NY) scored seven striaht points as the Bloodhounds went on a 13-2 rally to climb back into the game. Brooklyn led by a baker's dozen, 50-37 at the break.
John Jay outscored the Bridges 14-8 over the first five minutes of the second stanza to pull to within seven points, 58-51 on a William Smallwood (Cardinal Hayes / Bronx, NY) three-point play. Two minutes later, another Jaeger lay-up made it a six point game. Hemingway and Daniel Nisbett (Petrides / Staten Island, NY) then combined to score the next eight points, all from the foul line, to open up a 14-point lead. The lead stayed in double-digits for the rest of the game, and reached 21 points on a Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep /Queens, NY) put-back with 2:21 remaining.
Hemingway scored a career-high 25 points in victory, and added six steals and three assists to his impressive stat line. Nisbett chipped in with 22 points points ans six steals, while Jean-Baptiste added 17 points and six boards. Jaeger posted a double-double for the Bloodhounds, with 17 points and 19 boards.
With the victory, Brooklyn remains undefeated in conference play, as they head to Hunter College on Friday for a meeting with the Hawks who are currently in third place in the CUNYAC North Division. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
