Box Score

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Team (16-4, 8-1 CUNYAC) shot a season high 60 % (15-of-25) from behind the arc and defeated Lehman College (14-6, 7-2 CUNYAC) 98-89 on Saturday afternoon.

Brooklyn's Daniel Nisbett (Michael J. Petrides / Staten Island, NY) came out on fire, converting his first six field goal attempts - five from beyond the arc- scoring 17 of the Bridges' first 19 points.  BC had a 19-13 advantage less than five minutes into the game.  The Lightning kept pace, tying the game at 19 on a Jonathan DeJesus (Mt. St. Michael / Bronx, NY) lay-up.  The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes until a Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Astoria, NY) jumper put BC ahead to stay.

An Enes Purisic (William C. Bryant / Astoria, NY) lay-up started a 16-4 Brooklyn run that was capped by a TyShawn Russell (Holy Cross / Jamaica, NY) trifecta putting the Bridges up by 14 points, 46-32 with five minutes to play in the half.  Lehman battled back, scoring 10 of the final 12 points to pull to within five points, 51-46 at the break.

Lehman briefly knotted the score at 53-53 less than three minutes into the second half on a pair of DeJesus foul shots.  The Bridges responded with a 12-4 run, keyed by another three from Nisbett, and built a seemingly comfortable lead.  A basket by Xavier Garvin (Mt. St. Michael / Bronx, NY) capped a 6-0 Lightning spurt that brought Lehman to within two points, 67-65 midway through the stanza.

Brooklyn pushed the lead back to 12 points with four minutes to play, as Ahmad Hemingway (Curtis / Brooklyn, NY) and Nisbett hit back-to-back threes. The Lightning pulled to within five points in the final 67 seconds on a pair of free throws by Duane Rhoden (DeWitt Clinton / Bronx, NY), but could get no closer.

Nisebtt scored a game-high 31 points, shooting 7-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc.  He also added a game-high five assists.  Jean-Baptiste poured in 21 points, collected seven boards, dished four assists, and swiped four steals in the contest.  Hemingway added 13 points and four assists.

Lehman received a double-double from Alen Redzic (John F. Kennedy / Bronx, NY), who scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.  DeJesus and Rhoden each scored 23 as both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor for the game.

BC next plays on Wednesday evening, hosting CUNYAC South Division Rival Medgar Evers at 7:30 pm.  The game will be played in Brooklyn's Roosevelt Gymnasium.
