Men’s Tennis Edged Out by Bard, 5-4

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team dropped a nail-biter earlier today against Bard College, as the Bulldogs fell to the Raptors by a score of 5-4 in non-conference play. With the loss, BC falls to 0-7 overall; while Bard improves to 2-2 overall.

The match began with doubles play as Brooklyn would jump out to a 2-1 lead taking two of the three flights. The duo of seniors Arvind Badhey and Qing Hui Tan out-dueled the pair of Joel Richmond and Greg Gainey at #2 doubles by a score of 8-6; while the tandem of sophomore Anthony Sideris and freshman Cheyne Tribbey cruised to a victory at #3 doubles, downing the team of Jakob Friedman and Sam Denitz by a score of 8-1.

The Raptors took home the win at #1 doubles, as the pair of Adam Skinner and Erik Wallulis got the best of sophomore Matthew Micharlsen and senior Vesna Tan by a score of 9-8.

Badhey would continue his solid play in singles action, as he defeated his opponent Gainey, 7-6, 6-0, at #4 singles. Freshman Deshi Wu easily won his #6 singles match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Denitz.

In the end, Bard would rally to take four of the six singles matches for the come-from-behind 5-4 win. #1, #2 and #5 singles all featured tight play as the Raptors took all three flights in three sets.

After winning his first set 6-3, sophomore Anthony Chan would be unable to put away his opponent Skinner at #1 singles, as Skinner won the second set 6-0 and the third set 6-2.

#5 singles featured much of the same, as Q. Tan took the opening set 6-1 over Friedman; however, Q. Tan would be unable to pull out the win as Friedman took the second and third sets, 6-2, 6-4.

At #2 singles, Micharlsen dropped his first set 6-1 against Wallulis, however he would take the second set 6-3 to force a third and decisive set. In the end, Wallulis would come out victorious winning the final set 6-3.

Brooklyn will be back in action on Thursday, April 7th as the Bulldogs will look to capture its first win in 2011 against City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time.
