Women’s Soccer Falls to Johns Hopkins in NCAA Tournament

Box Score Baltimore, MD --- In the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (15-4) fell to the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University (19-1-1) by a score of 6-0.

The Blue Jays did most of their damage in the first 15 minutes of play, as Johns Hopkins scored early and often. Christina Convey began the scoring when she took a pass from Hannah Kronick and sent a shot that hit the left post and into the back of the net in the fifth minute.

Just a minute later, the Blue Jays took advantage of a foul in the box, which set up a penalty kick opportunity. Pamela Vranis took full advantage of the opportunity, as she beat the keeper to put the home team up 2-0.

Later in the 12th minute, Vrains set up Kronick who scored the third goal of the game. The Blue Jays would go up 4-0 in the 15th minute on a goal from Kelly Baker who took a cross from Kylie Fuller.

Johns Hopkins would take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.

The second half featured much of the same as the Blue Jays continued to push the offensive tempo adding two more scores in the process.

Sydney Teng scored the first goal of the second period in the 85th minute to make it 5-0 in favor of the Blue Jays, while Jennie Hall capped the scoring on the day converting on a second penalty kick opportunity in the 86th minute, following a foul in the box.

Freshman keeper Kimberly Chacko played all 90 minutes in goal for BC, totaling a career-high 10 saves. Kelly Leddy played the first 45 minutes, while recording one save on a shot attempt from Shani Abrahams. Sarah Bennett finished the final 45 minutes in goal for Johns Hopkins.

"The team put forth a gallant effort today," said Head Coach Patrick Horne. "When you give up an early goal against such an efficient team like Hopkins, it becomes difficult to get back in the game. Being down 2-0 in the first five minutes was an uphill battle that we couldn't overcome. We were outplayed."

Johns Hopkins will advance to tomorrow's regional final against York College (PA). York defeated Carnegie Mellon University, 1-0, in the other game of the regional.

BC concludes a remarkable sophomore season, as the Bulldogs captured the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship in just their second season of play. Head Coach Patrick Horne will look to continue to build a solid program as the team will look towards another banner year in 2014.
