Men’s Basketball Suffers 88-75 Loss at St. Joseph’s (Bklyn)

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team dropped an 88-75 decision on the road on Monday night against borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at Brooklyn Technical High School.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-10 overall on the season, while the Bears improve to 8-7 overall on the year.

Sophomore Jamel Gist led all scorers for BC with a game-best 36 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field, including going 2-for-4 from three and 12-for-16 from the line.

The Bears had two players record a double-double, as Michael Megafu finished with 30 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while David Louison also added 30 points, to go with 10 rebounds. The duo helped the home team out-rebound BC, 50-38.

The first half saw back-and-forth action with seven lead changes and two ties between the teams, as both squads looked to gain separation.

Following a jumper from junior Justin Staton that tied the game at 11 all at the 13:24 mark of the first half, the Bears surged out to a 7-0 run to go ahead 18-11 with 11:33 left before the halftime buzzer. BC would trail for the rest of the half, as the host St. Joseph's (Bklyn) would build its lead to double figures, en route to taking a 37-25 advantage into the locker room.

The second half featured a high-scoring affair, as the Bears would answer every run made by the Bulldogs. Gist scored 31 of his game-high 36 points in the second period, which saw BC shoot 40.5% (17-for-42) from the field. Megafu (21) and Louison (14) combined to score 35 points in the period that saw St. Joseph's (Bklyn) shoot 62.5% (15-for-24) from the field in the half.

For the game, Brooklyn shot 35.1% (27-for-77) from the field, including 20.8% (5-for-24) from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs also shot 69.6% (16-for-23) from the free throw line.

The Bears shot an efficient 51.7% (30-for-58) from the field, but struggled from three converting just 18.2% (2-for-11) from deep. St. Joseph's (Bklyn) went 26-for-37 (70.3%) to help aid in their win.

Sophomore Egzon Gjonbalaj chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench, while Staton finished with eight points. Junior Steven Diaz and freshman Harry Hazan contributed with seven points apiece.

Brooklyn will return to action this Wednesday, January 15th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Hawks of Hunter College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match up. The game is slated for a 7:15 pm start time at the West Quad Center.
