Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team shot 56.7% (17-for-30) in the second half to put away the Maccabees of Yeshiva University, 60-45, on Thursday night at the West Quad Center in non-conference action.
For BC, it was their second win in as many days as the Bulldogs improved their overall record to 7-12 overall on the season. The loss snaps the Maccabees two-game win streak as Yeshiva falls to 6-9 overall on the year.
Sophomore
Jamel Gist led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field, to go with five rebounds and three steals. Junior
Valon Djombalic added 12 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench.
Yeshiva's Yisrael Feld led the visitors with a team-high 17 points.
The first 20 minutes of action saw six ties and three lead changes as both teams looked to gain control of the game. BC held the largest lead at four on two occasions, before taking a 22-19 halftime advantage into the locker room.
Yeshiva opened the second half by scoring the first three points to erase its halftime deficit to tie the game at 22 all, for the seventh time. However, the Maccabees would be unable to take the lead as the Bulldogs answered with an 8-2 run to go ahead 30-24 at the 15:48 mark of the second period.
The Bulldogs would maintain their lead throughout the rest of the game, eventually building a double digit lead, 46-36, with 8:17 left in the game. BC would go on to lead by as many as 17 twice, en route to cruising to its 60-45 win.
For the game, Brooklyn shot 43.1% (28-for-65) from the field and scored 19 points off of 17 Yeshiva turnovers. BC also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, which led to 16 second chance points.
The Maccabees shot 43.9% (18-for-41) from the field.
Brooklyn will return to action this Saturday, February 1st as the Bulldogs will play host to the Lightning of Lehman College. The game is scheduled for a 2:45 pm start time at the West Quad Center.
