Box Score Brooklyn, NY-----Despite a slow start, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to come back and defeat William Paterson University (3-1) this afternoon, 80-66. The Bulldogs improve to 4-0 on the season, handing WPU their first loss. NEXT UP: The Bulldogs will open CUNYAC play on Tuesday, November 24th, at CCNY. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM as part of a double-header with the women who tip-off at 5:00 PM.
After scoring the first bucket of the game, the Bulldogs would experience almost a three minute scoring drought. WPU would take advantage and take a 15-6 lead with 14:37 remaining in the opening half forcing the Bulldogs to take a partial timeout.
The quick meeting must have made a difference because BC would then go on a 10-2 run to trail by only one point with 11:36 left in the half.
The Pioneers would keep the lead until
Chris McIllhatton knocked down two free throws to tie the game 22-22 with 7:30 left in the half. Following a Pioneer dunk on the next possession, the Bulldogs'
Jamel Gist hit a three to give BC their first lead since the opening basket of the game. The Bulldogs would keep the lead for the remainder of the game.
Showing a flair for the dramatic so far this season, Gist would also hit a pull-up jumper just before time expired in the first half to give BC the 37-32 advantage.
The Bulldogs took their first double-digit lead of the game with just under eleven minutes to play in the game, which they would extend to as many as 17 points with 4:02 to go.
Four out of five Brooklyn starters scored in double-figures including
Egzon Gjonbalaj,
Jamel Gist, and
Edon Gjonbalaj who led the way with 16 points apiece.
Egzon Gjonbalaj would also notch a double-double finishing with 12 rebounds on the afternoon.
The Bulldogs shot just a shade under fifty-percent from the floor with a 49.2% mark. BC held the Pioneers to 39.29% shooting from the floor in the second half.
