Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's swimming and diving team picked up their first team win of the season this evening defeating John Jay, 105-87, in CUNYAC competition. Brooklyn improves to 1-1 overall on the season as well as 1-1 in conference. The Bulldogs will travel to Bard with the men's team next Saturday, November 19th, for a non-conference meet. Races are scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
Trailing 46-43 prior to the 1-meter diving event, the Bulldogs rolled to first-place finishes in the three of the four next events.
Senior long-distance swimmer
Ketcia Alvarez had a standout meet winning both the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle events, picking up 18 points for Brooklyn. Sophomore
Valerie Vassilieva had another strong meet individually, winning the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 58.29. Freshman
Angella Christopher would go on to win the 100 yard butterfly event.
Brooklyn opened the meet with the 200 yard medley relay squad of
Eva Chan,
Fabiola Elezi, Christopher, and Vassilieva finishing in first-place.
