Ariel Smith has been named February’s Student-Athlete of the Month because of he consistant shooting and her ability to create shots for others. The 5’6” guard made significant impact on a team that made a late run to make the ECAC Division III Metro Tournament by going 5-2 in the last month of the regular season.
During the month, Smith averaged 7.1 points, while shooting .422 from the field, and adding 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Her best games came in some of the team’s most important contests. Against Medgar Evers, she netted 10 points, six assists and four steals. Against Lehman, in the CUNYAC / Con Edison Championship First Round, she dropped a month high of 13 points, shooting .455 from the floor, and added five assists and six steals.
Smith, a junior, had an immediate impact when she joined the women’s basketball team this season. After playing at Genessee Community College for two seasons, she transferred to BC before her junior year. In her career, she has started in 26 of the 28 games she has played in. She has averaged 9.9 points on the season and leads the team with 109 assists, good for 3.89 per game. She also adds 2.25 steals per game.
Smith is an exercise science and physical education major in her first year at the Midwood Campus.
