Brooklyn, NY—The West Quad will play host to an exciting afternoon of men's and women's college basketball on Saturday, January 9, with the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College hosting the Medgar Evers Cougars in a CUNY Athletic Conference South Division showdown.
At 12:30 pm, the women's teams square off. Brooklyn (7-5, 3-0 CUNYAC) are coming in hot, winners of six of their last eight. The Bulldogs are led by senior forward Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY), who averages 16.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. The Cougars (5-6, 1-2 CUNYAC) come to the West Quad as winners of three of their last four contests. Medgar Evers has two players who average double-doubles, sophomore center Tiffany Thompson, 18.5 points and 15.9 rebounds, and senior forward Shakimba Pierre, 14 points and 11.5 rebounds.
The men's game will follow at 3:00 pm. The Bulldogs (6-5, 2-1 CUNYAC) are led by CUNYAC pre-season Player of the Year Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John's Prep / Brooklyn, NY). The senior forward averages 18.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Brooklyn is the loser of two of its last three in January, after winning its last three games in December. Medgar Evers (7-7, 1-2 CUNYAC) brings a talented, young team to the West Quad. Jovan Deare and late-roster addition Winston Douglas have been piling up CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honors, taking three of the five awards. Deare, a freshman guard, averages 12.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while Douglas, a freshman forward, averages 9 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.
