All-Time Men's Basketball Wins Leader, Coach Steve Podias, Inducted Into BCANY Hall of Fame

Glens Falls, NY---Legendary Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Coach, Steve Podias, whose 232 wins and two CUNYAC Championships as the Bulldogs head coach from 1994-2014, was honored as New York State Basketball royalty, as the Basketball Coaches Association of New York inducted him into their Hall of Fame.

"It's an honor to be inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame; I am proud to have been a mentee and mentor to possible future Hall of Fame coaches. I have fond memories of my time at Brooklyn, from elevating Brooklyn College Basketball into the NCAA Division III Classification in 1998 to leaving in 2014 as a perennial CUNYAC Power."

Coach P, as he was known during his BC tenure, was well known for his teams' style of pressure defense and halfcourt execution, along with his Lou Carnesecca-like sweaters and humorous sideline antics.  Podias coached multiple all-conference players, and 1,000-point scorers, including current Bulldogs head coach Jeff-Jean-Baptiste.  His most well-known squads were the CUNYAC back-to-back Championship teams of 2008-2009 & 2009-2010, led by All-American Richard Jean-Baptiste, Jeff's brother.

Podias was loved by his players and respected by his peers.  Brooklyn students who attended games during the Coach P era were treated to an exciting product on the court, and on the sidelines, and knew Podias as the heart and soul of the Brooklyn College Basketball program.

Additionally, Podias has been a highly successful high school coach, coaching at Yeshiva prior to his Brooklyn stint, and currently coaching at Baruch College Campus High School.

Podias is also a lifelong social studies teacher, and has been a staple at New York Knicks summer basketball camps.  While retired from his teaching job, Coach P has no plans of stepping down from coaching anytime soon. He resides on Long Island, with his wife Roseann, while seeing his five daughters flourish in their adult lives.
