Ruth Perez transferred to Brooklyn College from Kingsborough after spending a year at the two-year school and has been remarkable as the team’s #1 singles player. During the month of September Ruth was a perfect 4-0 while playing singles. Ruth’s play has helped the team to their best start in years as they sit atop the CUNYAC standings with a 4-0 conference record. In those conference matches Perez has been dominant, defeating each of her opponents in straight sets. During the team’s first match of the season on September 17th, before Ruth was moved to her present spot in the lineup, she played #2 singles and beat her opponent, Liz Cyran of John Jay, 6-4, 6-0, helping Brooklyn to edge out John Jay, 5-4, in a crucial early season win. Two days later, Ruth dominated #1 opponent Lsvauna Neville of Lehman, 6-1, 6-2. On the 25th, almost a week later, she continued her strong play, defeating #1 opponent Gabriella Villaruel, 6-2, 6-2 in an 8-1 win over Staten Island. Later that week on the 28th, Ruth helped her squad shut out City Tech 9-0 while defeating #1 opponent Isatu Smith, 6-0, 6-1. Ruth, a business management and finance major, attended EBC Bushwick High School in Brooklyn. Only a sophomore, she has the potential to have a great college tennis career.
