Senior Raymond Chan helped guide the Brooklyn College Men’s Tennis team to an even 4-4 record in the month of April, including going 2-2 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC). The Bulldogs would go on to clinch the #7 seed in the conference tournament.
Chan had a solid month posting a 4-1 overall record in singles play, going 2-1 in CUNYAC matches, while splitting time between the #2, #3 and #5 flights. He had his most success at the number two spot, going 2-1.
Chan also had a strong month in doubles play, as he also posted a 4-1 record. He saw is most success pairing up with sophomore Matthew Micharlsen, as the duo registered a perfect 3-0 record in the month.
On Thursday, April 21st, Chan played an instrumental role in the Bulldogs 7-2 home win over conference and borough rival New York City College of Technology, as Chan picked up a straight sets win at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-0; while also coming out victorious at #1 doubles with partner Micharlsen, 8-2.
In a 6-3 victory over non-conference rival Sarah Lawrence College on Monday, April 26th, Chan once again earned wins in both his singles and doubles match, as Chan took home a hard fought third set super tiebreaker win at #2 singles and also a win at #1 doubles with partner Micharlsen.
Despite suffering a 7-2 loss at the hands of conference rival John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Thursday, April 7th, Chan shined in both his matches accounting for both of BC’s wins in the match. In doubles action, Chan partnered with classmate Arvind Badhey to win at #2 doubles, 8-4. Chan continued his strong play into singles play, as Chan was once again victorious in #5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
For his efforts, Raymond Chan has been named the Brooklyn College Male Student-Athlete of the Month, for the month of April.
